Blowin’ Me Up (With Her Love)
Album: Drumline Soundtrack
Although both Justin and JC dominated vocals in N Sync songs, JC was the one with the most versatility. Unlike Justin, who seems to be caught in a single genre, JC is in a position to offer more than only Timbaland and Neptune songs.
On his debut single, JC works with TLC producer, Dallas Austin. Blowin’ Me Up (With Her Love) is R&B with a band twist to it, which is welcome. Considering it’s the tie-in to the movie, it makes sense. It also introduces some new elements. For example, the drum accompaniment during the bridge is excellent and more infectious than a cold. JC’s vocals are lush and low in the verses. During the chorus, he brings it up a notch and sings some adlibs, which show off his voice.
The lyrics, however, are cheesier than a laitier. Perhaps the most hilarious of the lyrics is “Look at shorty/she’s leaning on me/Getting horny/Maybe we’ll get naughty.” He sounds like a teenage boy who is hoping to lose his virginity. It’s a promising debut, but he has to do a little bit better to compete with former bandmate Justin Timberlake.
